Flisan Beard - Multimedia Artist

Biography

Flisan Beard comes from Sweden and moved to Colchester in England in 1987 after four years of travelling around Europe and America. She went to Colchester Institute and qualified in 2003 in art and design. Alongside her degree she was an artist in residence at Colchester CEDARS (Eating disorder and self harm). Her art practice looked at Art and Science, Chaos Theory, micro/macrocosm and mental health.

 

Following her degree Flisan studied a Master in Art Psychotherapy at Goldsmith University, and qualified in 2006. She has worked for 8 years in hospice care, mental health and education as a state registered Art Therapist. Flisan's Art practice has developed through her interest in clinical practice and research, and is placed at Cuckoofarm studios. Her work is influenced by Louise Bourgeois, Eva Hesse, Ernesto Neto and Philosopher Gaston Bachelard.

 

Personal Statement
I am a multimedia artist who explore space as a metaphor for the structure of our existence.Through chosen concept I adjust into the dynamics of the chosen environment and use appropriate materials to communicate the subject matter. At present I am exploring memories and triggers, identity, and place. Order versus Chaos in my art work where my aim is to bring the two together in balance of a specific site.

 

I also practise as an Art Psychotherapist (registered with BAAT/ HCPC) who works with people of all ages and backgrounds presenting social, psychological and physical difficulties. I encourage clients to express emotions and explore their problems using a wide range of art materials, enabling positive changes and personal growth.
