Cocoon Viewfinder

Cocoon Viewfinder

A Viewfinder at Hadleigh Park, Essex (2015) Commissioned by Essex County Council and Place Services on behalf of RSPB and Greater Thames Marshes Nature Improvement Area Partnership (NIA) and with support from Arts Council of England and the Olympic Legacy Interpretation fund

The idea of the Cocoon evolved out of a process of research and engagement with Hadleigh Park Site, working with local groups and observing the construction work of the new Visitor Centre being built

lost and found

lost and found

On my first visit to Hadleigh, I got lost for hours in the vast park. This had an undercurrent influence to the development of my concept. Despite of being lost in the park I felt held by the beautiful environment supporting me in my search to find my way back. Historically this site has played an important role in supporting 'lost' people through William Booth's social reform Legacy and this support in 'lost and found' has continued.

Alchemy

Alchemy

My Viewfinder is zooming in on the Remnants of the Salvation Army Jetty where historical transportation and exchange took place to uphold the important work at Hadleigh Land and industrial Colony.

The significance of the new Hadleigh Park Visitor Centre, and the time it took for the Centre to be completed, allowed for metaphors to emerge around the Centre like a Cocoon that has both protective and a transformative resources. These interpretations I found to be part of Hadleigh’s natural history and as well as its vision today of restoration and enhancement.
